9 Best Fishing Lines For Bass Fishing

Choosing the best fishing line for bass fishing that suits how you fish will make the difference between a successful outing and coming home empty-handed. In this article, I ranked and reviewed 9 of the best fishing lines for bass fishing on the market so that you can pick the best fishing line for your next outing.

Fishing line is a vital piece of your overall tackle, but fishing line tends not to get enough love from anglers, especially beginners. Most anglers think of fishing line as simply a string you tie a hook on.

Fishing line is much more than a string!

There is a reason why many popular fishing line brands have poured millions of dollars into the research and development of new fishing lines over the years.

Unfortuenly the market has become saturated with so many products it has become difficult to tell the good products from the bad.

Since there are so many products out there, I had to poll and question numerous bass anglers to get thoughts on the subject, including reading countless website reviews and relying on my own experience to narrow down the list to these select few lines.

What are the Best Fishing Lines For Bass?

Here are my top picks for the best fishing lines for bass fishing that you need to try.

  • Berkley Trilene Big Game
  • Berkley Trilene XL
  • Sufix Siege
  • Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon
  • Seaguar InvizX

  • Power Pro Spectra Fiber
  • Spiderwire Stealth

1. Berkley Trilene Big Game

Best overall beginners fishing line for bass fishing

Brian’s Thoughts

I love Berkley’s Trilene Big Game fishing line. This line is very versatile and can be used for many different types of fishing. I’ve used big game fishing line both in freshwater and saltwater fishing and exceeded my overall performance expectations without breaking the bank.

Berkley is a monster brand in the fishing industry and has produced fishing lines for centuries. They have a very well know reputation for creating high-quality products.

This fishing line, Trilene Big Game, was designed and manufactured to be useable for practically any type of fishing you might end up doing in the future. This is great for beginners because they need to focus on the fishing itself.

2. Berkley Trilene XL

Best monofilament fishing line for bass fishing with good sensitivity and castability

Brian’s Thoughts

The Berkley’s Trilene XL is specially designed to maximize a fishing line’s strength and flexibility. Usually, when a fishing line is stronger, it tends to be stiffer, which reduces your casting distance. Trilene XL solves this issue because the line has been optimized to have high strength without sacrificing its flexibility.

However, if you have ever used this line yourself, you will notice that the line can cast pretty far for a monofilament line. Berkley has put a lot of focus on improving the castability of this line. They treated this line with their patent additive sole designed to enhance casting.

Oh, did I mention how good this line’s sensitivity is? Line sensitivity allows you to better feel bites, and one of the issues with monofilament is sensitivity. Line stretch that is naturally inherent with monofilament lines will damp out the sensation in the line when a fish strikes your bait. Trilene XL has a surprisingly good amount of line sensitivity

Specifications

  • Line Type: Monofilament
  • Pound Tests: 2lb – 30 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 110 – 3000 yards
  • Colours: Clear, Low Vis Green, Clear Blue

Pros

  • Budget-Friendly
  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Good Strength to Line Thickness Ratio
  • Outstanding Knot Strength
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Low Line Memory

Cons

  • Abrasion Resistance
  • Line Stretch

3. Sufix Siege

Premium monofilament fishing line for bass fishing

Brian’s Thoughts

The Sufix Siege fishing line is a premium monofilament fishing line designed for casting and sensitivity.

Similar to the Berkley Trilene XL product, the Sufix Siege has excellent castability and line sensitivity, but the more surprising aspect of this line is its abrasion resistance. The Sufix Siege has outstanding abrasion resistance for a monofilament that is soft, flexible, and strong. Something hard to come by in monofilament fishing lines.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Monofilament
  • Pound Tests: 2lb – 30 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 110 – 3000 yards
  • Colours: Camo, Clear, Neon Tangerine, Dark Green

Pros

  • Budget-Friendly
  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Good Strength to Line Thickness Ratio
  • Outstanding Knot Strength
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Low Line Memory

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Line Stretch

4. Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon

Best Fluorocarbon fishing line for bass fishing at affordable prices

Brian’s Thoughts

Fluorocarbon has come a long way. Once, it was only used as a leader line, but now it can be used as a mainline. The Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon is an excellent example of this.

The Trilene Fluorocarbon can be used as a leader line or as your main line if you want. Fluorocarbon lines are typically too stiff to be used as a mainline, unless you pick up a line designed to be used as a mainline.

This fluorocarbon offers great line sensitivity, strength, and abrasion resistance. The best part of any fluorocarbon line is that it’s practically invisible underwater, making it a great choice to use when worried about your bait presentation.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Fluorocarbon
  • Pound Tests: 4lb – 25 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 110 – 2000 yards
  • Colours: Clear

Pros

  • Budget-Friendly
  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Practically Invisible
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Low Line Stretch (At roughly 50% of line rating, the line will start stretching)

Cons

  • Line Memory (lower than most options, but it’s still noticeable)
  • Reduced Knot Strength

5. Seaguar InvizX

Best Fluorocarbon fishing line for bass fishing with low memory and excellent castability

Brian’s Thoughts

Seaguar InvizX is one of the best fluorocarbon lines that I have used, and I’m not the only one. The chances of you running into an angler that uses fluorocarbon lines will have this in their tackle box.

This line has virtually no memory, which is amazing considering fluorocarbon is inherently stiff, producing a lot of line memory. For this reason, you can use this line on any reel that you want without being worried about backlashing.

This line tends to sit nicely around your reel’s spool, which helps with your casting and control, another reason why this line is excellent.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Fluorocarbon
  • Pound Tests: 4lb – 25 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 200 – 1000 yards
  • Colours: Clear

Pros

  • Reasonable Price For Great Performance
  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Practically Invisible
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Low Line Stretch (At roughly 50% of line rating, the line will start stretching)

Cons

  • Low Abrasion Resistance

6. P-Line Tactical

Premium Fluorocarbon fishing line for bass fishing

Brian’s Thoughts

If you are using this line when fishing, the fish won’t see what hit them. If a line has the word tactical, it will be good.

This line did just that and did not disappoint.

This line comes fully loaded with a whole suite of characteristics that will blow away the competition. Excellent casting and no memory, but typically fluorocarbon lines with these characteristics usually mean that abrasion-resistant will take a hit – right?

Wrong!

For this reason, P-Line has increased the line diameter slightly to make up for the lower abrasion resistance. So now, with this line, there is more meat that a rock will have to cut through.

The only issue with this will be that your reel will hold less line because it will be thicker, but I don’t think this will be an issue for you. There should be enough extra line on your reel, so it should not affect you.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Fluorocarbon
  • Pound Tests: 6lb – 25 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 200 yards
  • Colours: Clear

Pros

  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Practically Invisible
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Low Line Stretch (At roughly 50% of line rating, the line will start stitching)

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Comes In 200 Yard Spools Only
  • Slightly Larger Line Diameter Than Most Fluorocarbon Lines

7. Power Pro Spectra Fiber

An excellent braided fishing line for bass fishing at reasonable prices

Brian’s Thoughts

In my opinion, the power pro braided fishing line does not get the respect it deserves. In my opinion, it out beats most braided lines at its price point in terms of performance.

The sensitivity on most braid lines is extremely good because they tend to have zero stretch, which does not dampen any sensation. Heck, one angler said this, which surprised me:

I can feel if the line is being dragged through grass, sand, mud, rocks, or an oyster bed

One of the things that most braided lines suffer from is poor abrasion resistance, but I was not the only one who was pleasantly surprised with this line’s abrasion resistance properties. It can take a bit of a beating with no issues.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Braided
  • Pound Tests: 3lb – 250 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 100 – 3000 yards
  • Colours: Green, Hi-Vis Yellow, Red, White

Pros

  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Thin Line Diameter
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Low Line Stretch

Cons

  • Very Visible Underwater
  • Should Spool Braid with a Mono Backing
  • Difficult To Handle For Beginner Anglers
  • Prone to Wind Knots
  • Line Colours Tend To Fade Overtime

8. Spiderwire Stealth

Medium priced braided fishing line for bass fishing

Brian’s Thoughts

The Spiderwire Stealth braided fishing line is another top-notch line. This line offers excellent casting and line sensitivity. But this is nothing new compared to other braided lines but what is new is that this line is coated with a special coating that helps prevent the line from digging into itself while sitting in the reel.

Braided lines can dig into itself very easily because of how thin the line is. This can affect your casting and tangle your line if the line digs underneath another line. Also, the coating helps this line have a slightly stronger knot strength compared to other lines.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Braided
  • Pound Tests: 6lb – 250 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 125 – 3000 yards
  • Colours: Hi-Vis Yellow, Green

Pros

  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Thin Line Diameter
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Coating Improves Casting
  • Resists Line Digging In Reels
  • No Line Stretch

Cons

  • Very Visible Underwater
  • Should Spool Braid with a Mono Backing
  • Difficult To Handle For Beginner Anglers
  • Prone to Wind Knots
  • Line Colours Tend To Fade Overtime
  • Available in two colours only

9. Seaguar Smackdown

Premium braided fishing line for bass fishing

Brian’s Thoughts

Can you SMELL what the rock is cooking!?!?

This line is truly impressive. Its extremely thin, strong, cut through heavy cover with ease, has crazy line sensitivity and does a good job resisting the line from digging into itself on the reel.

If it could not get any better, this line has pretty good knot strength, which can be challenging for braided lines since knots tend to slip and become undone.

The line comes with a coating that helps with abrasion resistance, which most braided lines tend to struggle with.

Specifications

  • Line Type: Braid
  • Pound Tests: 10 lb – 65 lb
  • Spool Sizes: 150 yards
  • Colours: Hi-Vis Green, Gray

Pros

  • Excellent Casting Performance
  • Practically Invisible
  • Great Line Sensitivity
  • Excellent Abrasion Resistant
  • No Line Stretch
  • Great Knot Strength

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Very Visible Underwater
  • Should Spool Braid with a Mono Backing
  • Difficult To Handle For Beginner Anglers
  • Prone to Wind Knots
  • Line Colours Tend To Fade Overtime
  • Available in two colours only
